Rollprint introduces Triad, a new solvent-free overwrap for
chemically-sensitive, high-speed pharmaceutical applications

Addison, IL(November 9, 2008)Rollprint Packaging Products, Inc. launches Triad, a new high-barrier, solvent-free overwrap which has been developed using the company’s proprietary metallocene-based sealant chemistry. The sealant layer bonds to foil—which can be challenging—without the use of solvent or water-based materials.

Triad is an extrusion-coated lamination of polyester, aluminum foil and metallocene which has been engineered to provide an exceptionally strong hermetic weld seal in high-speed, chemically-sensitive, pharmaceutical applications. Equally important, the performance benefits can be achieved at a cost-competitive price.

With regulatory agencies continuing to press against the use of solvent-based materials (and those containing isocyanates) in pharmaceutical applications, the structure was developed to meet these objectives without sacrificing performance. Historically, many competitive solvent-free structures have been known to come up short in machineability speed, seal strength and/or cost.

The water-based bonding agents designed to avoid the use of solvents typically do not hold up well with products which contain water or require high bond. Rollprint’s Triad addresses all those issues by using chemically-clean bonding agents and sealant layer to offer high moisture and oxygen barrier at sealing speeds of more than 100 linear feet per minute.

Typical uses for Triad are applications such as blow-fill-seal unit dose containers for inhalation therapy or diagnostic kits which require an overwrap to help achieve desired barrier properties. The structure is an ideal alternative to adhesive, solventless and water-based laminations for a broad variety of “life science” applications.

With manufacturing facilities near Chicago, IL, Rollprint Packaging Products, Inc. is a worldwide supplier of packaging materials for the healthcare and food industries. The company offers a complete range of flexible, heat-sealable materials incorporating film, foil, Tyvek® and paper. Structures can be designed to accommodate any sterilization method.  Available in rollstock, pouches and die-cut lids, Rollprint’s materials can meet the needs of most peelable, chemical resistant and barrier applications.

The company has also formed Alliantz Flexible Packaging Pte. Ltd., a joint venture between itself and Acme Packaging Co. (Pte) Ltd., Singapore.  Headquartered in Singapore, Alliantz has been formed to serve the flexible packaging supply needs of Southeast Asia and China.
